This image demonstrates what you can do in Photoshop to produce an old world look.  I used the art history brush along with the smudge tool, combined with layering to produce this image.  I have posted the full painting along with two different crops of the same image.  The original image is by Fred James of Fred James Photography.  Fred posted this image as a challenge on DPreview.com.
