Lake Worth, Florida
If you’re planning to stay in the Lake Worth area here are some promising locations for wildlife. Just west of Lake worth you will find a large tract of land that has been set aside for the protection of Florida wildlife. Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge has an abundance of birds and mammals and reptiles and it’s just about 30 minutes west of Lake Worth. I won’t go into the listing of the birds you can find that on their website. The winter months sees an increase in the bird population due to their migrations.

Another location just west of Lake Worth is Lake Okeechobee. This lake has an abundance of wildlife along the shores. You’ll also find some very nice landscapes. You can watch the sunrise in Lake Worth then jump in the car and drive west on Highway 441 to Canal point which is on Lake Okeechobee and you can watch the sunset. And it’s not all that far to the west coast and Fort Myers (2 hours 41 mins).

And there’s plenty of places in between to use your camera. I don’t remember exactly where it is but there’s a restaurant on Route at the halfway point where you can sample the local cuisine (catfish and gator tail). When you get the Fort Myers keep your eye out for burrowing owls. You can find these owls in the open fields. And if you plan on being in Florida during the months of January February or March, the birds ( Great blue Heron’s, Little blue Heron’s, Great White Egret’s, Little Green Herons and much much more will be nesting. They’re are established rookeries throughout Florida with the largest on the West Coast.
I hope this will be of some help. If you have any specific questions just e-mail me I’ll be glad to answer.
