Ask anyone about the three primary colors and they’ll say: red, blue, and yellow. They’ll also say that all other colors are created by mixing these three colors in certain proportions.

But now, open up your desktop printer and you’ll see something quite different. Besides black there are three colors of ink which, when combined, produce all others: cyan, magenta, and yellow. So this is a different set of three colors which are ‘primary,’ yet still generate a color wheel containing all the other colors. So what does the ‘primary‘ designation really mean? More

Michael Douma and his colleagues from ColoRotate and IDEA is working on a project to display and edit colors in 3D. He thought I might be interested and sent me the link which you will find below. I went to the site and was impressed. It’s called “ColoRotate” and is in beta. It mentions that a plug-in is in the works for Photoshop CS 4, I can’t wait. Check the site out and let me know what you think. Did I mention that it’s free? link

“Since color is inherently three dimensional, it’s always bothered us that all color pickers are flat. That led to the design ColoRotate, a 3D editor that aligns with the way our minds process color. We’ve also put together some background information about the nature of color, perception, and color models — http://learn.colorotate.org/

ColoRotate is a free online service that has some similarities to Adobe Kuler, but is different in that it’s in 3D. Users can browse color palettes, create new palettes, and share palettes with others in the ColoRotate community. This fall, we’ll be launching ColoRotate as a CS4 plugin.”

Aaron at ColorSchemer.com created a fun list of all 120 Crayon Colors with their hex codes and RGB values. “All of these colors are rough approximations from Crayola’s current list of 120 Crayon Colors. -CS” LINK

Thank you Sandra.
