If you’ve never abandoned your 4th grade obsession with the night sky (and who has?), Star Viewer is a web-based tool for peeking at some of the most interesting and vivid sights in the night sky.

Star Viewer is not as complicated as open-source and feature-rich astronomy tool Stellarium; the interface, however, is easy to use, and it allows you to quickly navigate to many interesting points in the night sky you’d never be able to see standing outside with your naked eye.

The interface won’t take any time to get used to, either. The project uses Google Maps to drive its navigation. You can pan, zoom, and explore the night sky the same way you would Manhattan.  Star Viewer

There are few more lazily fulfilling practices in this world than to watch someone else Photoshop in time lapse. In this clip, a guy turns himself into a Na’vi (Avatar smurf). Papyrus credits included. [fubiz via DVICE]

The commercial version of the ‘Steadicam’ has been around for a very long time, and has helped create many defining moments in popular cinema; many of us still remember the harrowing chase through the maze in Steven King’s ‘The Shining’ and the amazing way that the camera seemed to float behind the actors as they ran… one bent on murder, the other on survival. Read more at YB2Normal blog for the instructions. And one more DIY Steadi-Cam Version 5

If you’re an amateur videographer who’s trying to save a buck here or there, give this Ikea hack a shot. It’ll leave you with a pretty cheap and—based on the test video—rather decent camera dolly

Basically all that’s used for this hack is an Ivar shelving side unit, some nuts, a few bolts, and a couple skateboard wheels. Those parts, a bit of time, and you’ll have a dolly like the one used to shoot this video:

With the environment and sustainability firmly in mind the Dell Froot concept saves the planet courtesy two projectors: One for the virtual keyboard, and another for the monitor.

Designed by Pauline Carlos as part of a sustainability contest sponsored by Dell, the Froot also uses a colorful case that’s constructed out of a biodegradable starch-based polymer. As it’s a futuristic concept, the lack of a mouse is understabdable—we’ll no doubt be using our brains by then.

More seriously, Pico projectors are *almost* there, but not quite, otherwise I’d be asking why this is still just a concept.

I shoot along the Silver and Ocklawaha River at least once a week. With the exception of the springs itself not much has changed. Instead of river boats you see, glass bottom boats.

Global Thoughtz Technology has a cool list of the latest tech that’s due to blow up this year, including augmented reality.  It’s recently debuted on certain phones that can integrate GPS and object recognition to enhance navigation.

Further, the core of the technology will be the mobile camera and the placement of processed information on top of live streaming content from the camera.

We are already seeing some of it with mobile GPS applications, but 2010 will be clearly put these applications on the top shelf of mobile apps. This will allows users to get every information by integrating physical reality and virtual world.
